We wanted this space to feel a bit more elegant and grown-up than the other rooms in the house, yet accessible.

Juxtaposition played a major role in the success of this design, for example we pairing a slip-covered sofa paired with more structured chairs.

More and more, we here at Making Room for Peace are striving to support small businesses and local artisans with our sourcing. This Turkish throw pillow was bought at European Country Living.

Our inspiration board really set the tone for this living room … from the very beginning I knew that there were going to be a grouping of pillar candles, some oyster shells, sisal, and flowers.

To add a little "romance" and "calm" to this living room, we styled this group of pillar candles in a metal bowl, filled with sand and oyster shells.

By leaning this linen-covered bulletin board against the wall and pinning some magazine clippings and what-not, we treated it more like a piece of art, minimizing the office vibe.

While before this room sported a traditional, wood dining table and chairs we tweaked the arrangement by painting the table and trading in the old chairs for new woven ones.

What was once a traditional, dark dining room is now coastal and bright! Sea foam colored walls, a white painted dining table, and beautiful wall art.

We wanted this living room to feel a bit more "grown up" and "romantic" than the other rooms in the home, while still being accessible.

In regards to the area rug, we knew that we wanted something warm and woven; something that would complement the new floors instead of taking away from them. We choose this geometric jute/sisal.

We took what was basically a dark and empty playroom and turned it into something that is now bright, colorful and comfortable for the whole family.

We infused some coastal elements into this family room without going "themey". Here, we styled the mantel with a rattan mirror, potted palms and glass bottles.

Vintage books, glass bottles, rattan, and potted palms work together to add a coastal vibe that isn't too themey.

When designing, its important to create spaces that can evolve with the family, such as with this family room here.

The gallery wall in this family room is a mix of coastal pieces and graphic design. Its something that can really grow with the family.

Geared for the whole family (note the sectional), this space now meets a number of needs including: seating (hello family of six!), play (lots of floor space), and storage (bookcase).

Storage was something that we didn’t want to skimp on in this family room, so keeping the pre-existing bookcases, we simply added in some woven baskets to help keep things pretty and organized.

These vintage globes add the perfect pop of fun and color to this family room!
