Nothing Is Too Precious
Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Corner Gallery's first ever Dinner With the Artists in which I gathered together with locals, creatives, and artists from all across Virginia to discuss life, art, and our own creative pursuits. It was evening filled with beautiful artwork, inspiring creatives, and delicious food but what I loved most about the event was the conversation. During our meal gallery owner Anne Smith went around the table asking the celebrated artists questions about their work, process, and life. One question that came up was "have you ever thrown any pieces away?" Everyone answered in their own way but one answer that stood out to me was by artist Sarah Trundele was that she had. "I've learned to have the mindset that nothing is too precious", she explained. If a piece isn't working out she'll subsequently go over it or throw it out. She doesn't feel the need to hold on. I thought her answer to this question to be so simple and yet profound as it can be applied to so many aspects of life. There is so much freedom in letting go. It's only then after we shed what no longer serves us that we are able to move on and experience something new.

Fast-forward to my late twenties, when I started MRFP, where I brought this holistic approach to our business. At the end of the day, I don't just want to create "pretty interiors", I want to design spaces that..
Some days and weeks are busier than others, depending on where we’re at with our projects, however for the most part this is what a day-in-the-life looks like for me.
Collaborating with Hound & Sparrow Films this past summer, we partnered to create this beautiful video, sharing the heart behind what we do here at Making Room for Peace.
“One day, the mountain that is in front of you will be so far behind you, it will barely be visible in the distance. But the person that you become in learning to get over it? That will stay with you forever - and that is the point of the mountain.”
If your familiar with our work here at Making Room for Peace, then you know that when it comes to all of our design projects, we love to go custom! The design of the Harfield Project was no exception. Today we are breaking down seven ways where we went custom.
Out of all of the rooms in the house, the sunroom is definitely the place to be! Between the comfy seating, the amazing view of the river and the bar… this room is all about relaxing and having a good time.
When it came the design of the great room, we kept the base of it neutral but then brining in layer after layer of pattern and color. The effect feels thoughtful and lived-in.
As we headed into 2022, we’re making a few tweaks and changes to our design services that we offer. We are going to be implementing a 3-tier system for our design services, to better accommodate our client’s varying budgets and needs.
So I know I said that Office 01 was one of my favorite offices at Cedar Counseling & Wellness, but Office 07 IS hands-down my favorite. Moody, modern and masculine… I definitely wouldn’t mind working here every day!
Walking into waiting area 01, we wanted clients to feel safe and secure, while with waiting area 02, we wanted something a bit more bright, and open. Being a multi-use space: waiting area, yoga studio, kitchen, walk way, etc. it had to serve a multitude of purposes.
When it came to the design of the waiting area, we wanted clients to walk in and immediately feel safe and at peace. Taking inspiration from the name “Cedar” and the beautiful views of the woods out back, we saturated the walls in a beautiful sage/olive green…
When it comes to any space that we design, we want people to walk in and immediately feel safe and at peace. This is especially true for the counselors offices that we regularly work on but even more so for Cedar Counseling & Wellness.
Whenever I start a new interior design project now, I’m always looking for an opportunity to create something custom for our clients. A lot of times, its these pieces are one of the things that our clients end up being the most thrilled about!
Our interior design clients come to us not because they have no sense of style but because they sort of know what they like and they sort of know what they don’t like, and they need a professional’s help putting it together. Plain and simple.
In an effort to further these passions and better connect with our community, we are starting a series called Wellness Wednesdays. Every Wednesday at 3:00 PM we will have a discussion with a professional in the wellness field on Making Room for Peace’s Instagram Live
When working to turn your master bedroom into a peaceful retreat, its all about a feeling. You want it to feel soft, cozy and comfortable. A haven, where you can rest in.
It’s the summer of 2021. Wear the shorts. Eat the ice cream, a double scoop of your favorite flavors, waffle cone. Stop saying, “no, no I can’t” when you way to say, “yes, yes I can and I will and I’m on my way.”
Gracious in scale and with good bones, we were given an empty palette to create something beautiful and meaningful that would live on with this family for years to come.
You step into the master bedroom suite and immediately feel transported on “holiday”… the color palette, textures and thoughtful detailing helped to turn this room into a parent’s retreat.
We cannot get over how much some paint, new backsplash, new light fixtures, and some styling transformed this kitchen!!!
Similar to the design of the client’s last dining room, we kept the design of the Westmoreland Project dining room fairly simple. A few simple changes helped to make a large impact!
When it came to the design of the Westmoreland Project home office we knew that we wanted to do something really special.
Its hard to find the words to express how much we enjoyed designing this home. Gracious in scale and with good bones, we were given an empty palette to create something beautiful and meaningful that would live on with this family for years to come.
We are so excited to share that we are featured on Style Me Pretty Living today, highlighting the Del Ray Project!
I don’t want to say, “oh yeah, I care about sustainability. I care about ‘the least of these.’”. But not do anything. So this Earth Day, let’s DO SOMETHING.
Whenever people hear the name, “making room for peace” they usually smile and say “what a beautiful name” or “what is the story behind that?” Well today, we are sharing that story with you.
Four months later, we still can’t believe the transformation that occurred during this kitchen renovation! What was once a dark and cramped space is now functional, elegant and flooded with light.
It’s a powerful practice designed to encourage us to look within and examine our core values, how we want to show up in this world, how we want to feel.
I started my morning like most others, got up, made coffee, grabbed some toast, and went to sit down on the sofa to watch the sunrise but this morning I have to say, was incredibly powerful.
One of the things that I loved about working with this particular client is how organized they were, as well as their amazing style! A mix of traditional and modern, with a touch of coastal; it was right up our alley.
