Westmoreland Project Reveal | the Living Room

Its hard to find the words to express how much we enjoyed designing this living room… Gracious in scale and with good bones, we were given an empty palette to create something beautiful and meaningful that would live on with this family for years to come. Taking note of the home’s location - south-eastern Virginia - this living room has a sort of Southern, coastal, new-traditional style.

Walking in to the home you walk through the foyer and are immediately led into the living room. The bones of this space are fantastic but obviously there were a few things that we could have to change (i.e. the wall color, ceiling fans and the void above the mantel).

Y’all I have never had so much wall-space to play with in a home… We can safely say that I was EXCITED!

AFTER:

Warm, coastal, beauty… these are the words that come to mind when walking into the Westmoreland Project living room. With it’s expansive scale we were able to incorporate two oatmeal-colored sofas, two contemporary accent chairs and a painted, vintage trunk. Being a family of seven that loves to entertain, we wanted to make sure that there was enough seating for everybody!

What really brings this space to life are all of the decorative accents incorporated throughout the room. On the console in front of the painted shutters, we layered it with vases filled with preserved palm fronds; woven demijohns; vintage books; photos of family; etc. All of these pieces, along with the Turkish pillows and custom pieces of art, add so much character and depth.

There are so many exciting things about this living room, one of them being these custom pieces of art! We’ve long been admirers of Susan Connor’s work and knew that we wanted to incorporate it into this room. Commissioning my father-in-law to build these massive frames, we then attached Susan’s work, creating a custom piece of art.

When it came to these custom pieces of art, it was go-big-or-go-home. We designed them specifically to take up the majority of the wall, adding some subtle pattern. Below, we placed a beautiful, worn wooden bench.

As you’ll see throughout the Westmoreland Project, its amazing what some updating of paint and light fixtures can do, however, its the details that really make a house a home. There are so many details in this living room that speak to one another, working to create something special.

We love to incorporate custom pieces into all of our interior design projects. One of the ways we did that here, was with the painting of these wooden shutters. Located in south-eastern Virginia, near the water, these painted shutters are a nod towards that.
