Westmoreland Project Reveal | the Home Office

Its hard to find the words to express how much we enjoyed designing this home. Gracious in scale and with good bones, we were given an empty palette to create something beautiful and meaningful that would live on with this family for years to come. Taking note of the home’s location - Southeastern Virginia - the style of this project could be described as a sort-of Southern, coastal, new-traditional style.

Trading their old home for one right across town, our clients - a young family of seven - were ready for something with a bit more space! Having helped with the design of their last home, the Stoney Creek Project, they were kind enough to ask us to help them with their interior design of their new home, the Westmoreland Project. Focusing on the: foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, home office, and master bedroom, we were able to take what was once a dark, dated house and turn it into something beautiful, warm and light.

When it came to the design of the Westmoreland Project home office we knew that we wanted to do something really special. While both homeowners would be using the office, it would largely be used by Meghan; and so we took the design in more a feminine direction… painted ceiling, vintage treasures, and more…this home office is what dreams are made of.

One of the most exciting things that we did with the design of this home office was paint the walls and ceiling all the same color! We LOVE doing this with a home-office and were so happy that the homeowners were on-board because it is EVERYTHING!!

When it came to the design of the Westmoreland Project home office we knew that we wanted to take it in a more feminine direction. Largely inspired by the wall color (beach glass by Benjamin Moore) and unfinished wood and cane chairs that we found early on; we brought in several vintage pieces that gave a nod towards the feminine, romantic vibe.

Besides being beautiful we also wanted this home office to be functional, and so, we really maximized the home office storage with these tall, white bookcases. On the bottom half, we incorporated these beautiful, large woven baskets for plenty of storage; while up top, is more of a collection for books, family photos and vintage finds.

What really makes this office special, is all of the unique and vintage pieces that were brought in. On the top of the bookcases, we placed several blue-glass jugs and bottles, mixed in with varnished trophies. To add some warmth and texture, we brought in a lot of vintage books (incorporated with some of the clients - beauty + function!) and woven baskets.

We love that there was such an opportunity in this home office to proudly display all of the client’s diplomas and special memorabilia. Our favorite, are these two diplomas on the wall in between the windows with the varnished silver frames!

With all of the various entry-ways into the office, we took the opportunity to have the desk be free-standing. This desk in particular is one of our favorites because of the size and design.

These woven baskets were the perfect find for home office storage! Mixed in with books and vintage finds, we were able to create the balance of beauty and function.

After the year that was 2020 with so many of us working from home, it has become so important to have a beautiful and functional home office. We were so grateful to have the opportunity to design one for this hard-working family.
