A Cool, Downtown Office

It was only a few months ago that our friends over at Abundant Life Partners were moving into a new office, and now they are once again expanding! This time, to a cool, cozy studio in downtown Williamsburg. With a diverse roster of clients, including students from the college of William and Mary, ALP wanted a space that was a bit easier to access for those without a car. Located in the heart of Williamsburg, just a couple doors down from Amber Ox, this studio though tiny poses a lot of potential!

Unlike the office suite that we designed earlier this year, ALP asked that the design of this office space be simple - bringing in only furniture and decor. Between that, the size, and the many angles, this design project posed a bit of a challenge! However once we got back to the home office and drafted up the space, the design eventually began to come together.

When it came to the look of the office, we pulled a lot of inspiration from being “downtown”. Being cozy and on the third floor, the space felt sort-of like a studio; so running with that, we designed the office with masculine undertones mixed in with our signature coastal vibe. While the base of the room is a mixture of grays, dark woods, and white; there is also an infusion of woven elements, shells and greenery; giving the space a youthful but professional feel.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that we used a lot of round, circular shapes throughout the room. We did this intentionally, to offset the size and many sharp angles seen in the walls and ceiling. The use of these round furnishings and decor help to not only soften the room but to help it feel warm and welcoming - very important for a therapist’s office!

It’s the details in a design project that really make my heart jump for joy! The combination of dark woods, brass, coastal greenery and woven elements are just so gorgeous and a bit different from anything else that we’ve ever done. While we wanted to do something a bit different with this project, it was important that it still tie into ALP’s other office space.

Along with creating a space for the actual counseling to take place in, it was also important for us to carve an actual “office space”. It didn’t take long for us to realize that the only space that we could make work would be in the closet. While we toyed with creating a built-in, in the end we sourced this cute, little desk and cane chair; which fit perfectly. To create some visual interest, we hung a bulletin board on the wall, tacking on some art.
