Chair-ity Auction

Charity Auction - Inspiration

Making Room for Peace has had the pleasure of being invited to participate in a Chair-ity Auction this coming March, hosted by European Country Living and The Nest Collective. Making Room for Peace along with eleven other interior designers and artisans have been asked to take an old chair and then artistically design it. The chair will then be auctioned off online June 18th - July 15th. All of the funds from the auction will go towards The Nest Collective, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides furniture and household goods to those in need in communities all across Northern Virginia. Their mission is to provide the comforts of home to those in need. We are so honored to have been asked to participate in this event, as it aligns so well with our mission of creating beautiful, peaceful homes. Below, we’ve shared a little about our chair and the process of transforming it!

Charity Auction - BEFORE

BEFORE:

Growing up in Florida in the ‘90’s, wicker was BIG. While I’m all about woven baskets, cane furniture and rattan pieces, wicker - to me at least - can sometimes feel dated. My mind was recently changed however when I came across the Instagram page of Mainly Baskets Home, a company that specializes in making high-end wicker furniture and decor.

Pulling from my Southern roots and the work of Mainly Baskets Home, I was quite inspired to design this chair using blue and white. To paint the chair or to not paint the chair was up in the air, but one thing I did know is that no matter what, I wanted the chair cushion to POP! After looking through Savvy Swatch’s extensive fabric collection, I landed on a beautiful blue and white print. What I love about this fabric is that it can work in a variety of homes. It could go traditional, West Indie, or even bohemian.
