The Hartfield Project Reveal

When our client’s father-in-law suddenly passed away years ago, it caused them to pause and contemplate life: what was important to them? How did they want to live? This is turn led to the purchase of the river house or their “happy place” as they call it. Purchased back in 1999, they have been coming out here with their kids on weekends, summers and holidays. It was an honor working alongside them, to freshen up their great room and sunroom.

THE BEFORE:

One of the greatest challenges that we faced when designing the great room is that the scale of the room is quite long and narrow. We wanted to provide as much seating as possible for the client’s family and friends while still keeping things cohesive; and ensuring that there was enough room to walk around.

We needed to incorporate two separate seating areas that took into account the variety of view points: the TV, the river, and the fireplace.

We had a variety of goals when setting out on the design of the great room (both functional and aesthetic) but our biggest one was to provide a sense of cohesion. There was a lot going on with the existing pieces in terms of style, scale and placement - we needed to bring in a sense of peace and consistency.

THE BEFORE:

Similar to the great room, our largest challenge when designing the sunroom is that it is quite long and narrow. Again, we wanted to maximize seating and provide some cohesion when it came to the “look” of the room.
