Peaceful Practices | Journal Prompts
Journaling. It’s a practice that many of us have done at one point or another, whether it was in school or at home on our own. Its a practice that we know is good for us just like we know its good for us to eat lots of vegetables, exercise and rest; but its also something that many of us aren’t too great at doing…
Growing up I was an avid journaler. I would write about everything from what had gone on that day, things that were frustrating me to things that were bringing me joy. It was a healthy practice because it allowed me to get all of those thoughts and emotions out of myself (my head, my heart, my body) and onto paper, so that I wasn’t storing them up inside. Its a practice though that I’ve since then let go of, for multiple reasons. One of which is that when I sit down, I often don’t know what to write.
We figured that y’all might be in the same boat, so we’ve done some research and complied a list of journal prompts below. There is something so therapeutic about taking a few minutes to be still and to process in this way. Here’s to the intention of getting back into the peaceful practice of journaling!
What are your passionate about?
List 3 qualities that you appreciate about yourself?
What are you looking forward to right now?
What are 5 things that you are actively enjoying about life right now?
What are 3 emotions that you are feeling at the present moment?
What is one thing that you wish you could have told your teenage self?
What is not working in your life right now? How can you change that?
What would your ideal day look like? How would it taste. look and feel?
Describe how you want your home to feel?
How would you describe your style?
If failure wasn’t possible what would you be doing right now?
If you only 6 months left to live, how would you spend them?
What are your core values?
Who is someone that you admire? What do you value about them?
If money wasn’t of concern, what would you do with your life?
Who is the person that you hope to be 20, 40 years down the road?
How do you want to contribute to the world, using your own unique gifts and passions? Who could be touched by you and how would you affect them?
INTERIOR DESIGN: Making Room for Peace | PHOTOGRAPHY: Jenna Miller Photography
Along with time with family and friends, one of the reasons why we love the holiday season is it’s emphasis on love and giving.
Collaborating with Hound & Sparrow Films this past summer, we partnered to create this beautiful video, sharing the heart behind what we do here at Making Room for Peace.
“One day, the mountain that is in front of you will be so far behind you, it will barely be visible in the distance. But the person that you become in learning to get over it? That will stay with you forever - and that is the point of the mountain.”
Something that every one of our decluttering clients has in common is that when we come in for our consultation, I can just sense that they are experiencing feelings of embarrassment, discouragement and so many other things.
Something that I’ve been meditating on and preaching to myself… “You are responsible for your happiness. In fact, you create it. You attract it. You manifest it. You are the architect of your reality…”
You can have a beautiful life.
I don’t know if you know that. A lot of people don’t! The thing is, that its a choice. It has nothing to do with money but is really a mindset.
Join us for a conversation with Carrie Nicholes of Cedar Counseling & Wellness on the importance of rest.
Our interior design clients come to us not because they have no sense of style but because they sort of know what they like and they sort of know what they don’t like, and they need a professional’s help putting it together. Plain and simple.
This afternoon we teamed up with Jasmine Weatherly, owner of Pure Barre Falls Church for a killer workout! We can’t wait to go back for more
She was describing how, “we are so quick to spread bad news… Too many of us keep recycling the negative stories until we believe that there is only bad in the world” (p.27). I literally paused and put my book down. That was me!
In our discussion, Meghan provided a clear picture of what depression is as well as several ways to treat it. We really enjoyed this conversation and know that you will too!
Over the years, I’ve found that there are some tips and tricks that have helped me cope with my social anxiety and continue to go about my day-to-day living.
Yesterday we had a beautiful conversation with Carrie Nicholes of Cedar Counseling and Wellness on the topic of anxiety. Carrie is a clinical therapist and certified yoga teacher based in Annapolis, MD.
In an effort to further these passions and better connect with our community, we are starting a series called Wellness Wednesdays. Every Wednesday at 3:00 PM we will have a discussion with a professional in the wellness field on Making Room for Peace’s Instagram Live
It’s the summer of 2021. Wear the shorts. Eat the ice cream, a double scoop of your favorite flavors, waffle cone. Stop saying, “no, no I can’t” when you way to say, “yes, yes I can and I will and I’m on my way.”
This peaceful practice is beneficial no matter what season you are walking through but especially so when you are walking through the hard ones.
Whenever people hear the name, “making room for peace” they usually smile and say “what a beautiful name” or “what is the story behind that?” Well today, we are sharing that story with you.

It’s a powerful practice designed to encourage us to look within and examine our core values, how we want to show up in this world, how we want to feel.
Looking back on 2020, I think a lot of us could say that at one point or another we were searching for peace. Amidst all of the chaos, the pain and the unknowing I imagine that we tried a variety of things to bring us some sense of calm, some sense of peace.
There are days when I wake up, roll over and immediately start scrolling through my phone. Sleepy-eyed and with my hair still in a messy bun I begin to check my email, take a look at the weather, and head over to Instagram to see what’s going on.
By making up and handing out these bags we aren’t solving the problem of poverty or homelessness. The bags of affirmation are meant to be just that, affirmation to the men and women receiving them that they are seen, that they are heard and that they are loved not just by us but by God.
We know that the process of styling and decluttering can be overwhelming, which is why we encourage you to invite us to come alongside of you to guide and to cheer you on.
While we may be aware that there is an issue that needs to be addressed, we often have a hard time identifying what that issue, or block really is.
We can't always control what we are thinking but we can take our thoughts captive, and learn to identify when certain thoughts may lead us towards a downward spiral of negative thinking. Thinking that if gone unchecked for long periods of time can lead to depression and...
Social media is an incredible tool. It is a culmination of platforms that allow people of all ages and backgrounds to connect, all over the world. These platforms have allowed families to have increased contact with one another through the use of video, photographs, and text. They have been a inexpensive marketing platform for businesses to promote their product to customers and to connect on a deeper level.
We all go through seasons in life when things feel particularly chaotic at home and at work. A change in career, the addition of a new family member, or a big move for example, can leave us feeling as if our whole world has been turned upside down and our routine thrown out the window.
Setting goals for yourself is a great way to get there but its important that when coming up with your goals that you make them attainable (a.k.a. there's a chance that you will achieve them).
We are likely to have peace of mind when we take care of items on our to-do list, minimize the noise in our life and set boundaries. But what really is peace? Where does it come from and how do we get more of it?
Fast-forward to my late twenties, when I started MRFP, where I brought this holistic approach to our business. At the end of the day, I don't just want to create "pretty interiors", I want to design spaces that..
