D.I.Y. Organic Beauty Products

In our recent post about the constant tug-of-war between between buying organic or non-organic, I shared how one of the ways that I have been able to purchase more organic products has been by: one, cutting back on the amount of total beauty products that I use and instead investing in a select few and two, making my own products.  While I have my favorite organic brands such as KORA Organics and Dr Bronners Castile Soap, I also have my list of go-to D.I.Y. organic beauty products.  All of which are made of 1 - 2 ingredients that can be found at your local grocery and/or health foods store.  Just as it is with interiors, when it comes to beauty it's a mix of high and low products.

Dry Shampoo

Combine 1 TBS of cornstarch with 1 TBS of cacao and mix together until you have your desired color. (The darker your hair the more cacao you'll use) Put mixture into a spice shaker. Shake a small amount onto the roots of your hair and rub in with your fingers.

Make-Up Remover

Coconut oil is by far my favorite make-up remover out there. Besides smelling amazing and being very inexpensive, it does the job like non-other. To use, wet your face and then take 1 TSP or so of the oil and rub it onto your face; add more as necessary. Rinse with warm water and facial soap.

Brightening Face Mask

This D.I.Y. organic face mask is one the easiest, least expensive ones around! All you need is 1 - 2 TBS of Organic Greek Yogurt. Rub onto your clean, dry face and leave for 5 - 10 minutes. Gently remove with warm water.

Foundation Powder

Depending on the color of your skin, start with 1 TBS of cornstarch and slowly add in cacao powder until you reach your desired color. (The darker your skin, the less corn starch you will use) Put the mixture into a small mason jar or container and brush on as desired.

Bronzer

Place 3 TBS of cacao powder into a small mason jar or container and brush on as desired.

Body Oil

Coconut oil, almond oil, and jojoba oil are all three great options when it comes to body oil. They are extremely hydrating and chemical free!
