Welcoming In the New Year
While I think that most of us would say that the "new year" always feels like it begins around the time that school starts back up in the Fall, there is still something special about the "official" New Year in January. It's a time where collectively people reflect on the past several months: what they have accomplished, mistakes that occurred, and memories that were made. Its a time also, when resolutions or goals are set for the coming year and we reflect on where we've been, where we are and where we hope to be. Instead of letting the New Year pass you by, take some time to welcome it in...
Determine Your Values
I can't say enough how taking the time to sit down and determine your values will change your life. It is something that my husband and I did a year or so ago and it really has affected how we live. Not only does our list of values determine the purchases that we make and how we spend our time, but they also direct where we put our focus and energy.
Create a Vision Board
Vision boards are a beautiful way of visualizing what you would like your future to hold. What you would like to be doing, who you would like to be with, where you would like to be, and how you would like to feel. I don't believe that we have the power to control the future (only God does) however I do believe that it is wise to take time to meditate on where we are on our path, where we desire to be and how we might get there.
Forgive
In our reflection of the past year, it can be easy to become down on ourselves for mistakes made and missed opportunities. Take a few minutes to sit with those feelings and then release them. Forgive yourself and understand that we are constantly growing and that we will make mistakes. It's our choice whether we allow our mistakes to define us. Forgive yourself and ask God (and/or those you've wronged) for forgiveness.
Speak Words of Gratitude
Deciding to have a positive attitude and to speak words of gratitude is going to determine how you live your life. Guaranteed, your outlook is going to brighter, fuller, and filled with hope. Take time to reflect on all that there is to be grateful for and speak those words out loud. Give thanks for all that you have been given and for what you have not. Miranda Kerr once said that:
"I am grateful for who I am and who I am not. I am grateful for the life I have been given and for all that I have and all that I don't. Every breath I take is a blessing and an opportunity to fully experience the sheer joy of being alive."
I love that?! It is a saying or mantra really, that I repeat to myself often; especially when I start to compare my life with others.
Fast-forward to my late twenties, when I started MRFP, where I brought this holistic approach to our business. At the end of the day, I don't just want to create "pretty interiors", I want to design spaces that..
Some days and weeks are busier than others, depending on where we’re at with our projects, however for the most part this is what a day-in-the-life looks like for me.
Collaborating with Hound & Sparrow Films this past summer, we partnered to create this beautiful video, sharing the heart behind what we do here at Making Room for Peace.
“One day, the mountain that is in front of you will be so far behind you, it will barely be visible in the distance. But the person that you become in learning to get over it? That will stay with you forever - and that is the point of the mountain.”
If your familiar with our work here at Making Room for Peace, then you know that when it comes to all of our design projects, we love to go custom! The design of the Harfield Project was no exception. Today we are breaking down seven ways where we went custom.
Out of all of the rooms in the house, the sunroom is definitely the place to be! Between the comfy seating, the amazing view of the river and the bar… this room is all about relaxing and having a good time.
When it came the design of the great room, we kept the base of it neutral but then brining in layer after layer of pattern and color. The effect feels thoughtful and lived-in.
As we headed into 2022, we’re making a few tweaks and changes to our design services that we offer. We are going to be implementing a 3-tier system for our design services, to better accommodate our client’s varying budgets and needs.
So I know I said that Office 01 was one of my favorite offices at Cedar Counseling & Wellness, but Office 07 IS hands-down my favorite. Moody, modern and masculine… I definitely wouldn’t mind working here every day!
Walking into waiting area 01, we wanted clients to feel safe and secure, while with waiting area 02, we wanted something a bit more bright, and open. Being a multi-use space: waiting area, yoga studio, kitchen, walk way, etc. it had to serve a multitude of purposes.
When it came to the design of the waiting area, we wanted clients to walk in and immediately feel safe and at peace. Taking inspiration from the name “Cedar” and the beautiful views of the woods out back, we saturated the walls in a beautiful sage/olive green…
When it comes to any space that we design, we want people to walk in and immediately feel safe and at peace. This is especially true for the counselors offices that we regularly work on but even more so for Cedar Counseling & Wellness.
Whenever I start a new interior design project now, I’m always looking for an opportunity to create something custom for our clients. A lot of times, its these pieces are one of the things that our clients end up being the most thrilled about!
Our interior design clients come to us not because they have no sense of style but because they sort of know what they like and they sort of know what they don’t like, and they need a professional’s help putting it together. Plain and simple.
In an effort to further these passions and better connect with our community, we are starting a series called Wellness Wednesdays. Every Wednesday at 3:00 PM we will have a discussion with a professional in the wellness field on Making Room for Peace’s Instagram Live
When working to turn your master bedroom into a peaceful retreat, its all about a feeling. You want it to feel soft, cozy and comfortable. A haven, where you can rest in.
It’s the summer of 2021. Wear the shorts. Eat the ice cream, a double scoop of your favorite flavors, waffle cone. Stop saying, “no, no I can’t” when you way to say, “yes, yes I can and I will and I’m on my way.”
Gracious in scale and with good bones, we were given an empty palette to create something beautiful and meaningful that would live on with this family for years to come.
You step into the master bedroom suite and immediately feel transported on “holiday”… the color palette, textures and thoughtful detailing helped to turn this room into a parent’s retreat.
We cannot get over how much some paint, new backsplash, new light fixtures, and some styling transformed this kitchen!!!
Similar to the design of the client’s last dining room, we kept the design of the Westmoreland Project dining room fairly simple. A few simple changes helped to make a large impact!
When it came to the design of the Westmoreland Project home office we knew that we wanted to do something really special.
Its hard to find the words to express how much we enjoyed designing this home. Gracious in scale and with good bones, we were given an empty palette to create something beautiful and meaningful that would live on with this family for years to come.
We are so excited to share that we are featured on Style Me Pretty Living today, highlighting the Del Ray Project!
I don’t want to say, “oh yeah, I care about sustainability. I care about ‘the least of these.’”. But not do anything. So this Earth Day, let’s DO SOMETHING.
Whenever people hear the name, “making room for peace” they usually smile and say “what a beautiful name” or “what is the story behind that?” Well today, we are sharing that story with you.
Four months later, we still can’t believe the transformation that occurred during this kitchen renovation! What was once a dark and cramped space is now functional, elegant and flooded with light.
It’s a powerful practice designed to encourage us to look within and examine our core values, how we want to show up in this world, how we want to feel.
I started my morning like most others, got up, made coffee, grabbed some toast, and went to sit down on the sofa to watch the sunrise but this morning I have to say, was incredibly powerful.
One of the things that I loved about working with this particular client is how organized they were, as well as their amazing style! A mix of traditional and modern, with a touch of coastal; it was right up our alley.
