Cedar Counseling & Wellness Reveal | Office 07

When it comes to any space that we design, we want people to walk in and immediately feel safe and at peace. This is especially true for the counselors offices that we regularly work on but even more so for Cedar Counseling & Wellness. A 3,000 sq. ft. counselors office based in Annapolis, MD this expansive space boasts two waiting areas and seven counselors offices. With such a large space, it could easily feel overwhelming for clients walking through doors, but with our strategic and thoughtful design, we were able to make it into a calming retreat. Today, we are walking you through the design of office 07!

BEFORE:

Out of all the offices, Office 07 was the best looking in regards to the design of the former tenants. I love a black painted room and definitely considered keeping the color for a minute, but decided that it didn’t quite go with Cedar’s brand.

AFTER:

So I know I said that Office 01 was one of my favorite offices at Cedar Counseling & Wellness, but Office 07 IS hands-down my favorite. Moody, modern and masculine… I definitely wouldn’t mind working here every day! When it came to the design, Carrie really invested in professional, quality pieces - and you can tell. They really stand out on their own, allowing us to keep the design clean and minimal.

Adding some contrast to the sage/olive green walls, we brought in a beautiful Mid-Century Modern desk and linen desk chair. This piece of art was one that Carrie already owned; and blends in beautifully with the room. The tall vase with the pampas grass and collection of smaller objects bring a softness to the area.

We were able to go a bit darker with the wall color in this office largely due to all of the natural light that comes pouring in. Often when designing for counselors, we design with the understanding that they rather avoid using over-head, florescent lights (dido!), so we made sure to bring in a pair of floor lamps.

There were many sources of inspiration when it came to the design of this office space. One of them being the large piece of art above the sofa. A landscape of rich greens, hazy blues and soft grays it evokes a peaceful tone. We drew these colors into the rest of the room via the gorgeous, linen sofa; velvet pillows; and wood accent tables.

One of the cool, pre-existing features about this room, was the built-in wooden shelves! We styled these for beauty but also for function! The gray woven baskets provide needed storage for the counselors while the vintage books and pottery bring in some interest and warmth.
