Toano Project Reveal | the Guest Bath

Like a lot of people, my Toano project clients found that after months of being home due to Covid precautions, they were ready to do something different with their space! Having spent hours online, looking at various designs, they had a lot of great ideas when they approached us in the spring of 2021 to help with the design and renovation of their kitchen, guest bath and master bath. Partnering with Van Fleet contractors, we were able to transform what was a nice but dated space into something new and fresh!

Today, we are walking you through the design of one of the most elegant guest bath’s that you’ve ever seen!

THE BEFORE:

Similar to the kitchen, the “before” guest bath wasn’t a terrible space, just a little traditional. Its layout though gave it a lot of potential.

THE AFTER:

One of my favorite things about designing a guest bath is that similar to a foyer, a guest room or even a laundry room, you can go “bold”. Generally these spaces are smaller than other rooms in the home, allowing you to invest in the materials used and really pack a punch. When it came to the design of my client’s guest bath we wanted to create something that was “fresh” and “fun” but still tied in the with the rest of the home. Being right off the living room (the most formal room in the home), we wanted the guest bath to exude elegance.

We wanted to find a balance between doing something fresh and designing a bathroom that incorporated those classic elements of the Old Hollywood-type looking bathrooms with the beige and black tile and brass light fixtures. We were able to bring these two desires together by going with that classic look but while incorporating some more current design features (i.e. the vertical layout of the wall tile and the hex tile floor).

I have to admit, I geeked out so hard when I saw the vertical wall tile installed in the shower… its a look that is very much on trend right now but is one that I truly feel will stand the test of time. In this guest bath in particular, it provides so much interest while also making the space feel a bit larger than it actually is.

Another feature that I absolutely love is the black and brass sink that my client selected. After searching and searching, we finally landed on this option - loving that it brought that touch of black in that we both love. Hanging above, we placed an elegant, brass wall mirror with a pair of brass sconces on either side.

We kept the styling of this guest bath fairly simple, bringing in some linen colored towels, a candle and hanging these framed pieces on the wall, sourced from a local antique store. The effect, is an elegant, timeless space.
